The FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts is committed to the protection of scientific integrity.

Scientific integrity

Scientific integrity is governed by the fundamental principles of ‘reliability’, ‘honesty’, ‘respect’ and ‘responsibility’. Scientific integrity is required in all aspects of teaching and research; at the FHNW, it is expected of staff involved in teaching and research and is instilled in students and participants in continuing education programmes. Particular attention must be paid to the practice-oriented research collaborations that are important to the FHNW and to the interests of research partners, with due regard for scientific integrity.

The valid FHNW Guideline scientific integrity (PDF, 125 KB, German) is based on the Code of conduct for scientific integrity by the Swiss academies of arts and sciences, the SNSF Swiss National Science Foundation, swissuniversities and innosuisse – Swiss Innovation Agency.

The main aim of the FHNW regulations is to set out clear reporting and procedural channels in the event of breaches of scientific integrity, in accordance with Swiss standards. The Regulations also contain, amongst other things, guidance on data management, confidentiality, publication and dissemination, as well as authorship.

Violation of scientific integrity

If students, staff or participants in continuing education programmes are the victims of a breach of scientific emic integrity, or if they witness such a breach, they have access to advisory services and the relevant procedures. Detailed information on this can be found in the FHNW Guidelines on Scientific Integrity (PDF, 125 KB).

Contact points

Anyone who feels that their scientific integrity has been compromised, or who believes that the scientific integrity of others has been compromised, may always contact their line manager or senior management.

Persons of trust

To provide easily accessible counselling, trained persons of trust (PDF, 389 KB) are available to all students, staff and continuing education participants across the FHNW. Persons of trust are bound by a duty of confidentiality and can be chosen freely.
