How do I register a new SWITCH edu-ID?

There are just four simple steps to register an account:

Go to the SWITCH edu-ID registration page
Enter your name, e-mail address and a password
After your account has been created, you will receive an e-mail confirmation
Click on the link in the confirmation e-mail to activate your account

How does signing up for an FHNW service work?

When you use your SWITCH edu-ID to register for an FHNW service for the first time (e.g. signing up for a conference), you need to consent to the following:

Data protection regulation: this regulation specifies how your SWITCH edu-ID is handled
Information sharing: information sharing governs your consent to the use of data regarding your SWITCH edu-ID

You only need to provide your consent to these two points the first time you use your SWITCH edu-ID for an FHNW service.

Where can I use my SWITCH edu-ID?

Your SWITCH edu-ID is used to verify your identity for the following FHNW services:

Access to FHNW Moodle (with a SWITCH edu-ID that is linked to the FHNW or another Swiss higher education institution or an edu-ID that has been verified by SWITCH)
Registration for selected degree programmes (bachelor's, master’s)
Registration for selected continuing education events (expert seminars, courses, CAS, MAS, etc.)
External access to the “Inside Groups” collaborative platform
Registration and access to the library platform Swisscovery
