Overview The goal of the module is to use the fundamentals of film studies to improve students' English skills through listening, reading, writing, discussion and vocabulary development. Parallel to studying the history of film, a critical analysis and theory of film, an overview of film genres, students will:

  • prepare and structure a presentation based on theoretical film studies articles
  • discuss and analyse theoretical approaches in film with practical examples
  • apply film analysis skills in writing
Learning objectives Upon successful completion of the module, participants can:

  • use the fundamentals of film studies to improve English proficiency through listening, reading, writing, discussion and vocabulary development
  • use the communication skills developed throughout the module, including listening, reading, writing and discussion, to analyse and discuss a wide range of film genres
  • understand and analyse long and complex literary adaptations of films
  • express themselves in clear, well-structured text, expressing points-of-view at some length
Previous knowledge Entry based on placement test or successful completion of e4/ten2. Language level C1 or above.
