Alongside a emphasis on performance and performativity, the degree programme is characterised by a focus on the body, its perception and movement, on body-based design methods and on body-knowledge.

Studying Fine Arts fosters the develop of a distinct, individual artistic position. In the studio, in workshops, in project work and in the context of exhibitions students gradually develop their own artistic language.

Aesthetics, usability, materials, emotional impact, legibility, formal value: the design of serially produced goods draws on the knowledge of various disciplines. To assume an active role as designers in an era of rapid social change, students learn how to approach their own discipline with confidence and how to deal with related areas in a professional and socially competent manner.

Music and movement as forms of expression are creative and varied. Students studying music and movement can develop and hone their own musical and dance skills in different styles. Music and dance make it possible for a wide variety of people to come together and create space for communication. A diverse and international community of lecturers and students awaits you at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. The Medieval programme is the world’s only full-time Bachelor’s programme of its kind. It combines technical support on instruments from the Middle Ages and the early Renaissance with contemporary vocal techniques. The programme offers a specialisation in repertoire studies and historical improvisation practice. Students gain access to the theoretical and music-historical basis for musical practice.

A diverse and international community of lecturers and students awaits you at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. The bachelor’s degree programme is dedicated to a repertoire from the 16th to the end of the 19th century and its historical contexts. In the instrument/voice major, technical skills are honed and the practical and aesthetic principles of music are developed. The aim of the course is to achieve a high level of musical competence in solo and ensemble playing. The context of historical performance practice is explored through theory and complementary offerings.
